Before Intercultural Coalition for Family Wellness was established as a formal organization, its founder (Cathi Tillman) had spent many years traveling to Ecuador, providing support to a growing effort which had its reach throughout Latin America. This effort continues to provide mental health support to families in underserved communities: families who are struggling and suffering due to poverty, addiction, violence, migration and political oppression; families who do not have the resources to access the therapeutic support which could alleviate their pain and provide strategies to prevent future harm.
As a result of her annual trips to provide training, clinical supervision and academic support to local networks of professionals and para-professionals practicing throughout Ecuador and other parts of Latin America, it was clear that there was more work to be done, requiring more hands, minds, and hearts.
